The World- Welcome and Farewell
Hindus believe that there is a world above and below ours where our jiva is prepared for our next round. They believe that the world we are in is a training ground to prepare and exercise our jiva on our journey. There is the question as to our worlds metaphysical status and this question is also much debated. Many agree that our nature is self-existent. There is then the world as successful yogis see it, a vast existence without the materialistic culture we value. Hindus have also come to terms with the fact that many questions are unanswerable, "why the soul, which is really united with God throughout, sees itself for awhile as sundered" (Smith 71). Thus the Indian world is really quite peacefully simple. There is no eternal damnation to fear nor is there a hell, it is quite forgiving.
